happy ending!!!!! =)

Well. Today was a good day because I taught my last class and I think I did it good as the previous classes. I began with a warm up that the students really enjoy because they were playing with a balloon and they were saying verbs in their base form. We had a good time playing and in that way they remembered the verbs and that was my purpose.

They remembered the verbs in their base form and then I introduce the grammar that in that case was the Simple Past with a short story called “Goodbye Mr. Hungry.” It was a really nice story and the students liked it. After I read the story twice, I asked the students to repeat after me and they did it very good. The fourth time, I asked the students to stand up and mimic the story. I told them that while I was reading the story they had to mimic Mr. Hungry. They enjoyed that moment because they were learning in a funny way.

After that, I got into the grammar explanation that it was the Simple Past. I taught the verbs in their regular and irregular form. I wrote some verbs on the board and then I asked the students to repeat after me and they did very nice. We had a good time with the reading. After mimicking the story, and after the grammar explanation, I asked the students to tell me the verbs that were in the story and if those verbs were in present or in past and they told me that those verbs were in past. We practiced a lot the verbs and they learned some rules that we have for regular and irregular verbs.

At the end, we were getting to the pronunciation part and there was where I stopped because my time was over and the teacher continued with the pronunciation part.

In the feedback, she told me that it was great that I taught the grammar and those things and then she taught the pronunciation. She said that it was a good combination. She told me that I am energetic with the students and that she really loved that because in that way we have the students motivated and paying attention to what we as teachers are doing.

I really loved this group because they are participative and they are very nice. I enjoyed this period and I hope I continue working as I have been doing it.!!!!!!! =)

  2. Elicia,
Grammar, eh? It is not as difficult as many teachers think. You have to be creative when presenting the grammar so that students can identify the pattern they are going to study.
Then you can present the rules, and it makes it easier for them to understand them.
